Understanding, or starting to understand, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission

This Sunday we focus on the outreach of the United Church of Canada and welcome Cheryl Jourdain as our guest speaker.  She is a Speaker for the All Native Circle Conference of the UCC. She is a member of Couchiching First Nation (Fort Frances, Ontario).   Cheryl has been the Speaker of ANCC since October of 2004.  The conference was formed after the United Church Apology.  She was one of ANCC’s first hired staff.  As Speaker, Cheryl has come across many different opportunities to provide First Nations leadership and voice.  It is not always easy to ‘say’ what has to be said, especially in the many cultures that make up the Church and want to be ‘in relationship’.  The conference spans five provinces and serves 40 aboriginal church ministries.  This role requires extensive travel into urban and remote Indigenous community settings.  She continues to serve as ANCC Speaker and has celebrated 14 years in this role as of October 2017.
