In an open-ended series at Forest Grove, we watch a film the week ahead and then talk about it during our Sunday morning (and we watch a few clips). This is one of my favourite films. All star cast, black and white to set the mood, and the reminder that the more things change the more they stay the same. Discovering and declaring the truth when so many want to hide it and evade their complicity in lying and manipulating lives for their own ends has never been easy. Jesus' words "the truth will set you free" is countered by Pilate's "what is truth?" every day. Who needs the freedom of truth when a lie, or ignorance, are so easy to inhabit? Or when we prefer distraction above all?
